SEGES FINDERE, Bound by Hatred (2009, Paragon)
The skull:
Black and white simplicity always works well for big dumb skulls, and this one has an effective starkness about it. The skull looks off into the distance, and if you look closer it’s made of human bodies, presumably war-ravaged victims. I have to point out the Voivod-inspired logo, which is my favorite thing about this band, and pretty much the only thing worth endorsing about Seges Findere (“The Final Harvest” in Latin). That, and the fact that they’re a rather skull-friendly band (their 2011 Terrorist Warfare collection also sports a skull).
The music:
Nationalist Socialist black metal from Brazil. Seems sorta ridiculous, but that’s a Nationalist Socialist for you. They talk big but, like many people, would probably cower and cry were a gun pointed into their faces. Musically? War metal noise in the Blasphemy/Revenge/Bestial Warlust vein. Three originals here plus a Von cover. It does what it does well enough, but feels entirely redundant. Lyrically? Fuck these nutjobs.
